Grow A Living Fence
MotherEarthNews
Suburban hedgerows are designed to create a dense barrier to give privacy, reduce sound pollution and protect against winter winds. They also prevent erosion, protect wildlife, and help with snow buildup. An important goal for these new hedgerows is to plant them with trees, shrubs and other native plants to attract local wildlife and insects.

GreenBuildingTalk: Save Money on Your Heating and Cooling Bill
Green Building Elements, CA
A study by MIT emphasizes the potential for geothermal, and manufacturers are offering more options for consumers. Basics: the heat pump simply moves heat energy from one place to another, just like your refrigerator or air conditioner. But a major difference is that these transfer heat in only one direction, while a heat pump can transfer heat in two directions, thereby heating or cooling the space. In the cooling mode, the geothermal heat pump takes heat from indoors and transfers it to the colder earth through either groundwater or an underground earth loop system. In the heating mode, the process is reversed.
What's New On the Horizon for Green Building?
Acknowledging that buildings are responsible for a large proportion of greenhouse gas emissions, both U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) leadership and many of the 13,000 USGBC members and other attendees at USGBC's November 2006 Greenbuild conference in Denver expressed a clear and urgent intention to mitigate that contribution.
